Who We Are

The Ocean City Marlin & Tuna Club dates back to its origin in 1959 when it was known as the Snug Harbor Marlin & Tuna Club. The clubs membership at that time consisted of 23 members whose purpose was camaraderie with a common interest in fishing. Awards were presented to members for individual prowess in catching fish. In the late 60's and early 70's members donated their time and boats to take disabled veterans on daily fishing trips. In 1976 the club name was changed to Ocean City Marlin & Tuna Club enabling more recognition and to increase membership to 1000 members. In 1978 the club started the Overnight Billfish Tournament known as the Overnight Swordfish tournament. The first tournament registered and unbelievable 42 swordfish caught, 76 marlin released along with several tuna, dolphin and wahoo. Marlin magazine called this tournament one of the most productive tournaments considering only 42 boats were entered. Over the years the club has also been recognized for donating funds for the creation of artificial reefs off the coast of Atlantic City and Ocean City. Funds have also been donated in member names to the Recreational Fishing Alliance and the Billfish Foundation. In 1992 a handicapped kids outing was started and still carries through the present. Members provide their boats for the enjoyment of these handicapped children. Current membership amounts to over 700. The club sponsors 15 members tournaments and several social functions each year.
